Live a life worth dying for.
— Kady Grant

Okay, so this book definitely deserves it’s five star rating. It’s not quite as good as the other two in the series, but I can’t honestly mark it any lower because, even not matching up to the others, it’s still a U>really, really amazing book.
I have loved this series so much. I’m going as far as to say it’s my second favourite series of all time, right after The Dark Tower.
I’ve got a serious problem after reading this, because nothing is going to be this good for a long while.

Every story needs its villain.
And its hero.
And its monster.

This book in the series didn’t throw as many curveballs into the mix as the others, there were no stunning twists and I didn’t really get much of a feel for the new couple we were introduced to. This one was more about wrapping up those loose ends and making sure everything came together in the end. It did this perfectly. There was plenty of the action I’ve come to expect, lots of horror in a hot war zone, and some more time with everyone’s favourite computer—AIDAN!

I see what I am becoming, Kady.
And I am starting to frighten myself.

The way these books are written is fantastically involving. You really feel as though you’re reading the documents about what happened. It keeps you flipping pages fast, and you can lose all track of time in a just-one-more-page kind of way. I was completely invested in this story, and yes, there were a few tears shed on occasion. The characters are wonderfully complex and you can get a real sense of their frustration and fatigue with every new situation they face.

A soldier’s first duty is to their conscience.

I’m not much of a science fiction reader, but this series has revised my entire opinion on the genre. I think I’m going to spend some more time delving into scifi from now on. I only hope I find a series as good as this one again.

Villain Rating

Finally. Finally, after reading the whole series I’m going to name Leanne Frobisher as my main villain. She’s glorious. Firstly, she was not responsible for the initial attack on the home planet. She basically picked up the reins after her associate failed completely in his first strike. She obviously heads up a truly terrible firm who is plotting and planning to kill untold amounts of people just to cover up their own mistakes.

But, Leanne herself is cruel, calculating and very clever. She is in contact with the people she’s ordered into this situation and doesn’t bat an eye at the thought of erasing them, too. She heartless. The fact that she’s Ezra’s mother is never truly explored though. I would’ve liked to see a little bit more on that side of things. Obviously, Ezra and his father were trying to hide from her in the first place, but there’s a very human moment for Leanne when she implores her son that she didn’t know he was there. She was a great villain, just doing her job, and doing it damn well. 9/10

Happy Reading,

Hello, everyone! My name is Claire and, probably much like yourself, I'm an avid reader. I don't know about you, but I always end up finding the villain to be the most interesting and absorbing character in most books. Who can forget Captain Hook or Tom Riddle? How many of us would love to meet the Wicked Witch of the West? Or invite Hannibal Lecter over for dinner and a nice Chianti? I wanted to name my book blog something suitable and thus Love the Villain was born! I hope you enjoy reading through my book reviews and things, and don't hesitate to get in touch!
